Sight-Reading Adventure
What does the app do?
It is a companion to the exercise book My First Sight-Reading Adventure. Each exercise line appears on screen exactly as it does on the page: one or two staff lines, plain whole notes, and no clefs or bar lines yet. Tap play and the app plays the line back on piano while a voice sings the solfège names, so a student can check by ear what they have just read and played. It does not listen through the microphone and does not grade anyone.
I tap play and hear nothing.
Turn the volume up with the volume buttons while the app is open. The app plays even when the device is in silent mode, so silent mode is not the cause. If the sound is going somewhere else, check for connected Bluetooth headphones or speakers, or an AirPlay destination. If there is still no sound, close the app fully and open it again.
How do I change the tempo?
On the exercise list (the screen with Part 1 and Part 2), tap the gear button to open Settings. Under Playback, adjust Tempo: 40 to 120 beats per minute in steps of 5, one note per beat, 60 to start. The change applies the next time you tap play. There are deliberately no tempo controls on the exercise screen itself, so there is nothing for small hands to change by accident.
Does it need an internet connection or an account?
No. The app works entirely offline, has no accounts, and collects no information at all. See the privacy policy.
Where do the exercises come from?
They are the lines from the exercise book My First Sight-Reading Adventure, in the same order, so the app and the book can be used side by side. Every line is built into the app, so the book is not required. Part 1 covers the treble clef, Part 2 the bass clef.
Reporting a problem
Email support@soaringplatypus.com with as much of the following as you can:
- Your device model (for example, iPad 10th generation) and its iOS or iPadOS version
- The app version, if you know it
- Which exercise and which line you were on
- What you expected to happen and what happened instead
Because the app collects nothing, we have no record of your device or of your use of the app. Those details are the only way we can reproduce what you saw.
Purchases and refunds
App Store purchases are processed by Apple, and only Apple can issue refunds. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
